howard zinn is HERE this thursday!

Justice, civil rights, real people struggling for freedom ~ hardly anything is more urgent for Christians, and Howard Zinn will be at The Cathedral this Thursday at 12:15pm to tell stories of the Civil Rights Movement and inspire us to be today's freedom bearers. So now you've got a great reason to come here twice on Thursday: at noon to hear how God's Spirit moves in efforts for justice and liberation; then at 6:30pm for worship, when God's Spirit moves into each of us and calls us into service, action and love. What else could you want out of church?

What's Going On @ The Crossing?
HOWARD ZINN ON THE CIVIL RIGHTS STRUGGLE / Thursday @ 12:15pm, The Cathedral: Author, historian and activist Howard Zinn speaks. Final in the Cathedral's Lenten series on the Civil Rights Movement.

WORSHIP @ THE CROSSING / Thursday @ 6:30pm: Kirsten reflects on the gospel. No 6pm spiritual practice but we'll weave the practice - praying with women's poetry (a nod to Women's History Month) - into our worship. Driving here? $3 validated parking @ Boston Common Garage on Charles Street. Practice Simplicity! Our Lenten community practice is to do some prayerful letting go. Look at the closet or bookshelf each day and take out one item you can live without. Bring 'em to The Crossing, and we'll find a home for them.

NEXT WEEK IS HOLY WEEK / WE WORSHIP ON WEDNESDAY, 3/19 @ 6pm!!: Lots of special happenings during Holy Week, the intentional and intense period of prayer, rituals, fasting and preparation for Resurrection Sunday:
  • Wednesday, 3/19, at 6pm: The Crossing hosts Tenebrae ~ a solemn, candlelit service of reflection on Christ's suffering and the suffering of the world ... and our hope for resurrection.
  • Maundy Thursday, 3/20, is a service for the whole Cathedral community. Starts at 6pm, includes Agape Meal and ritual footwashing.
  • Celebrate resurrection at Rise Up!: A Soulful Easter Vigil, on Saturday, March 22, at 7-9pm. Experience the ancient ritual, infused with the blues, spirituals, chant, poetry, reggae and hip hop. Free validated parking at Boston Common Garage.
  • Easter Sunday at 10am ~ a festive eucharist for the whole family! Why not get up on a Sunday morning, just once :)
