Thank you for the funk

Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us ...

The funk was in the house on April 19, the night of The Crossing's birthday/worship party. And God was in the house, too. I can't tell you what a joy it was to do what we always do at The Crossing -- worship to the groove, listen for God in each others' stories and in the world around us, get nourished to head out and make some justice in the name of God -- to do all that with 60 people, young and old, monied and homeless, queer and straight, black, Asian, white and Latino, all crammed together at the altar, where we could get up close and personal with God and each other, and celebrate. Just celebrate.

There will be lots more worship, more community, more service, more life emerging at The Crossing. You head to the mountaintop, then you head home. But it's good to pause, to give thanks to God who has drawn us together and forward on this adventure. And it's good to thank each other, to say, Yes, we're building a community. And it ain't easy. But it's happening. And maybe, just maybe, we can invite even more people to join the adventure, to join the party, to join the life and mission of the God who changes everything so that it looks just a little more like heaven.

Thanks for the journey, the prayers, the witness. And oh yeah, thank you for the funk.
